Ottawa Senators
It was back in 1883 when the first Ottawa Senators professional hockey team came into existence. Back then the NHL was for Canadian hockey teams. It was in 1920’s when the United States was invited into the NHL that the Ottawa Senators began having financial problems. Their solution to the problem was to begin selling players for good old fashion green cash. Though the plan sounded good it soon forced the Ottawa Senators to take their team to St. Louis. While in St. Louis they changed their names to the Eagles and within the first year were permanently asked to leave.
With fans raring to go, the Ottawa Senators got their gold, red and black ready. Ottawa Senators merchandise was ready to be produced and potential Ottawa Senator fans were ready to put on an Ottawa Senator T-shirt to cheer once again for their own hockey team. Nearly fifty-four years later when the NHL announced that they were going to be expanding by two teams real estate broker Bruce Firestone and two colleges sat down to crunch number and got a bid together to once again get the Ottawa Senators back on the ice.
In 1989 the “Bring Back the Senators” rally began. With Ottawa Senators sweatshirt designs all ready to be printed the crew waited for the decision. It was on that special day, December 12, 1990 that they got the go ahead to bring back the once popular Ottawa Senators.
