Dale Jarrett
Jarrett was a talented athlete all through high school. He was offered a golf scholarship to the University of South Carolina. He chose to follow his father’s path and became a race car driver. He earned his first Nationwide Series win in August 1986 at the Orange County Speedway.
He received his first NASCAR Cup Series victory in August 1991 at the Michigan International Speedway. He won the Daytona 500 in 1993. This was after his second year of racing.
In the ten NASCAR Cup Series seasons which ran from 1993 through 2002, Jarrett finished the point standings in the top five, a total of seven times. He earned 29 of his 32 series victories during this time. Jarrett has three Daytona 500 wins. He has earned 32 victories, 163 top five finishes, and 16 pole positions.
In 1993 his series victory was extra sweet. His father Ned Jarrett was one of the announcers. There were tears of joy in his eyes as he watched his son win that race.
Dale Jarrett decided to retire in 2008 after the All-Star Race. Jarrett ended his career on a high note, with a lot to be proud of.
