Washington Senators
The Washington Senators played, alternatively under the Washington Nationals name, from 1901-1960. They are still loved to this day; you can see proud fans wearing vintage style 1906 Washington Senators apparel to games all over the nation.
Even with a less-than-stellar record, the Senators have modern day fans. The team even managed to make some baseball history in their short life-span. The Senators and the Detroit Tigers played the longest scoreless game in 1909, a nail-biter that went on for over eighteen innings.Though today, commemorative Washington Senators t-shirts of this historical event are not available for sale, replica Washington Senators jerseys from 1909 are out there.
In 1910, William H. Taft was the first president to throw out the first ball of the season; the possibility that he did it wearing a Washington Senators team jacket is highly unlikely.
Walter Johnson, the right-handed pitcher who played for the Senators from 1907-1927 was nicknamed the “Big Swede” even though he wasn’t Swedish. He was one of the few stars the Senators called their own. He won 417 games, enough to sell Washington Senators sweatshirts, even to this day.
